Anamalai Rainforest Restoration Program

Varattuparai 4

This is a small (4 ha) site, a linear fragment separating coffee and tea and stretching from near the road to the Sholayar reservoir in Varattuparai. Heavily degraded in the past, with substantial weed (especially Lantana camara) invasion and liana tangles, this site is nevertheless used by a range of wildlife from rainforest birds to gaur. Our restoration work here began in 2009 with targeted weed removal followed by mixed native species planting.
